When Being Molded Hurts (And the Process of It)

Have you ever felt like your entire life was being broken down, piece by piece, and there was absolutely nothing you could do to stop it?

We love talking about the beautiful end result. We love the testimonies, the victories, and the finished masterpieces. But we rarely talk about the raw truth of the Potter’s wheel: being molded hurts like hell.

This year has pushed me past boundaries I never knew I had. In January, I lost my dad. In May 2026, I lost my job. Two massive, crushing blows in a matter of months. When those things happened, it didn't feel like I was being gently reshaped. It felt like I was being completely shattered.

I’ll be completely real with you: man, does this shit hurt.

There is no sugarcoating the process. This has not been an easy road, and I am still in the thick of it. I am still learning every single day how to let go of control over things that are completely out of my hands. Trying to control the uncontrollable is mentally draining, and eventually, that mental weight takes a physical toll on your body. You feel it in your chest, your sleepless nights, and your pure exhaustion.

But I’ve also had to learn that there is light at the end of this tunnel.

To change the shape of clay, the potter has to apply intense pressure. That pressure looks like situations that force you to your knees. It forces you to realize that your old ways of coping and your own human strength are not enough. Many people will look at this kind of test and choose to give up quickly. The pain is too deep, and the pressure is too heavy.

But I am not one to give up easily.

I know the God I trust. I look back at the last eight years of single motherhood, of empty bank accounts, and of impossible situations, and I remember: what He has done before, He will do again. He has a track record of provision in my life, and a job loss or a season of grief cannot erase His faithfulness.

If you are on the wheel right now, feeling the crushing weight of loss and uncertainty, let yourself feel the pain. It’s okay to admit that it hurts. But please, don’t give up. The Potter never takes His hands off the clay. He isn't breaking you to destroy you; He is breaking your old shape to build a masterpiece that can hold the blessings waiting for you at the end of the tunnel.
