To the Mom Drowning in Debt and Hope

Have you ever sat in your car outside the grocery store, staring at your bank app, just trying to mentally budget for milk, eggs, and gas before you walk inside?

If that is you right now, I want you to take a deep breath. I have been in that exact driver’s seat.

For years, I carried a financial weight that felt entirely crushing. The truth is, I became a single mom long before my divorce papers arrived eight years ago. For a very long time, I was the sole anchor of my household. The rent, the clothes, the food, the endless school supplies—it all fell squarely on my shoulders. And in the middle of trying to raise my family, I was also the primary caregiver for my aging parents.

The struggle was incredibly real. There were moments when the numbers simply did not add up. The paycheck was gone, but the needs of my household were still staring me in the face. To make things happen, I had to turn to credit cards and personal loan debt. I know the exact, suffocating feeling of drowning in debt while desperately trying to keep your head above water.

But today, I am looking back from the other side of that mountain. Those two babies I panicked over? They are beautiful young adults now. One is thriving in college, and the other is navigating their senior year of high school. Seeing them stand on the edge of their own futures is the ultimate proof that the struggle was worth it.

I am writing this to tell you that no matter how dark the room feels, God always provides.

When my bank account hit zero, His grace never did. He supplied our needs exactly when we needed it most. Sometimes He touched the hearts of people around me to offer a helping hand. Sometimes He revealed resources I didn't know existed. Other times, He simply gave me the wisdom and direction to make the next right choice.

You might feel like you are drowning in debt right now, but please do not lose your hope. You are not alone, you are not forgotten, and your bank account does not have the final say over your family's future. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. He will provide a way.
